About The Department of Computer Science & Engineering
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering established in 2008 ( previously under Electronics and Communication Engineering Department ) at NIT Silchar, offers the B. Tech, M.Tech. and Phd. programmes. With a sound Vision and Mission, this department provides a platform for creating Engines and Engineers to lead the country and entire World. The department is very rich in ultra-modern equipment for research, research and research, namely, HPC (Supercomputing), Servers, Cameras, Microprocessors, Workstations, latest configured Desktop PCs, etc. Furthermore, the department procure dozens of software, namely, Red-hat linux, Windows, Matlab, etc. The faculties and the students of the department creates unique identity in the country and have good impact in research community world-wide. The department believe that this is the place to line up our career at the level of the World.

The mission of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is to train and transform young men and women into responsible thinking engineers, technologists and scientists in the area of Computer Science and Engineering, to motivate them to attain professional excellence and to inspire them to proactively engage themselves for the betterment of the society.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering
The Programme Educational Objectives of the B.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering programme of National Institute of Technology Silchar are:
- To provide students with a strong foundation in mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals necessary to formulate, solve and analyze computer science & engineering problems.
- To enable them to use evolving technologies, analytical thinking, and design to address contemporary issues.
- To communicate well orally and in writing, interact professionally, and work effectively on multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
- To demonstrate the ability of gauging the impact of computing on individuals, organizations and society upholding high ethical standards.
Programme Outcomes (POs) of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering
Program Outcomes (POs) of the B.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering are as follows:
- Graduates will possess knowledge on applied mathematics, applied sciences and foundational engineering concepts.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to analyze a problem, identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice, including the ability of expressing algorithms.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices.
